Gate
India Gate is the pride of Delhi. An imposing
structure, the gate was built in memory to the of the 90,000
Indian soldiers who laid down their lives during World War
I. Situated at the at the end of Rajpath, the India Gate is
42 meters high and is a popular as a relaxation area during
the summer evenings and a popular picnic spot during winter.
Initially called All India War Memorial, the gate was designed
and built by Lutyens who is also credited with the designing
of New Delhi, the capital of India.
Lotus Temple
The Baha'i Temple of Delhi is spectacular
in its design. 27 wonderful huge
white petals of an unfolding lotus made of marble spring from
nine pools and walkways. This symbolizes the nine unifying
spiritual paths of the faith. Experience the solitude of Baha'i

Qutab Minar
The
unique architectural structure of the monument attracts many
visitors from all across the world. The construction of Qutab
Minar began in the 12th century and it was completed in the
13th century. Beautiful calligraphy of the magnificent tower
adorns the adjacent edifices. The Minar rises over 230 feet
and can be ascended by a circular stairway for a breathtaking
view.
In the year 1199, Qutb-ud-din Aibak started to work on the
construction of this Minar and was completed by his successors
after his death. This ancient monument celebrates the advent
of Muslim dominance in Delhi. The tower has five distinct
storeys, each marked by a projecting balcony. The first three
storeys are made of red sandstone, the fourth and fifth of
marble and sandstone. The Qutab Minar is covered with intricate
carvings and deeply inscribed verses from the Koran. To Qutb-ud-din,
the tower marked the eastern extremity of the Islamic faith,
casting the shadow of God over east and west.
Humayun Tomb
Humayun's
tomb is a complex of buildings in Mughal architecture , commissioned
by Humayun's wife Hamida Begum in 1562 CE, and designed by
Mirak Mirza Ghiyath, a Persian architect. It is located in
Nizamuddin East, Delhi, India, close to the Dina-panah citadel
also known as Purana Qila, that Humayun founded in 1533.
Visiting Humayun's tomb is a wonderful experience where you
get to see the Mughal architecture and the history of Mughal
India. Humayun's tomb is preceded by a tomb with blue dome.
The dome has been made with Persian tiles which became very
popular since Mughals came to India.
Red Fort
Lal
Quila also called the Red Fort is one of the most important
monuments of India. It stands on the bank of river Yamuna.
The whole structure is made of Red stone. The fort was built
by Shahjahan - the Mughal King who also built the famous Taj
Mahal - in 1648. Lal Quila stands at the eastern side of Shahjahanabad
and the very name of "Lal Quila" comes from the
huge wall that encloses the whole structure. The wall is 2.5
km long and the height varies from 16 meters on the river
side to 33 meters towards the city. Monuments in Delhi
One of the special attraction of the fort is the huge wall
that encompasses the whole structure. The walls have two entrances,
one at the delhi gate and the other at the Lahore gate. Lahore
Gate is the main entrance point of the fort.
Akshardham
Temple
Akshardham Temple in Delhi has an important place in Delhi's
tourism. The
structure depicts great Indian culture and its architecture
is simply immaculate. The temple is located at NH 24, Noida
Mor, New Delhi. This amazing structure comprises of 20,000
statues, floral motifs and exquisite carved pillars made of
stones.
It is built along the river Yamuna and lies
over an area of around 100 acres with beautiful gardens, water
fountains and carved pavilions. The temple took complete two
years for completion and a hefty sum of rupees was invested
in the construction.
The architecture of Akshardham temple is
similar to the one at Gandhinagar in Gujarat. The main monument
at the temple is about 141 feet high with a beautiful statue
of Lord Swaminarayan. There are various structures within
the temple which depicts the history and culture of Hindu
Religion.
